Repercussions of day 2’s bad weather left the grounds at Zilker Park in swamps but that didn’t stop people from enjoying themselves and experiencing the final day of Austin City Limits Music Festival.
Over 40 artist performed that Day on 8 different stages but having arrived a little late I ended up parking myself at the XBOX 360 stage to see performances by Passion Pit and Girl Talk . Having seen Passion Pit perform once before in Austin, it was no surprise to expect a great show from them, but unfortunately I was a little disappointed with their delivery. Fans repetitively yelled and chanted “Turn it up!” and you could tell the band was suffering but trying their best. Don’t get me wrong though, I love Passion Pits electro-pop, make you want to dance, feel good music, but I felt they would have done better in a more intimate personal atmosphere. Even through the excruciating heat and people passing out from heat exhaustion and dehydration, they managed to finish their set and put on a good show.
After Passion Pit went on, waiting one hour in the heat, and pushing my way to the front of the crowd, I had the privilege and honor of being able to go on stage and dance my butt off while Gregg Gillis, a.k.a Girl Talk, performed. This by far was the highlight of my ACL experience. Having the opportunity to watch the crowd that stretched farther than I could make out and seeing everyone dance to Girl Talk’s mixes and samples to various artist was a point of view of ACL I thought I would never get to experience. Girl Talk kept the music flowing and the crowd moving for the whole hour he was set to perform and for me it was a great way to end my night and first Austin City Limits experience.
